about Dragon Boat Racing

Every year, the Chinese Club of San Marino sponsors 3 to 4 teams to compete in the Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival. This year, the Festival will be held at the Long Beach Marine Stadium on July 28th-29th. We invite all Club members to join our racing teams. There is no age limit for joining the team and no rowing experience necessary. It’s a great opportunity to meet each other and have a great time learning how to race the dragon boat.

Dragon boat racing originated over 2,000 years ago as part of an ancient Chinese legend. It is only during the past 25 years that dragon boat racing has become an organized international sport. Dragon boat racing is often described as the ultimate team sport. Today, it is both a recreational and a highly competitive sport enjoyed by people of all ages around the world. The Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival has grown into one of the largest sponsors in California. In addition to the exciting dragon boat racing, the Festival features many fun cultural activities - an entertainment stage with live dance and music performances, Chinese traditional art demonstrations, Chinese acrobatics, traditional dance, music, martial arts performances, a variety of foods, arts & crafts, and other vendors.

Come and join us on this fun event. We just need your commitment to practice one-half day each weekend from June 23rd to July 22nd as well as participating in the race on July 28th and 29th. Chinese Club of San Marino will cover all expenses to include registration fees, snacks and transportation for non-drivers. If you are interested in joining the team or forming a team of your own to be sponsored by the Chinese Club of San Marino, contact Dora Liang at calpartner@gmail.com by June 1, 2007
